Cypress Woods has one of the most high-powered offense in the state of Texas. Running that offense in 2012 will be Nate German, a 6-foot-2 versatile athlete, who has been patiently waiting his turn.
He was impatient with his recruiting process and German verbally committed to Rice University Thursday.
"You have to choose a place where you are wanted, needed and they have a vision about how you fit into their program," German said. "Rice has unmatched academics, but I felt that they really want and need me. That was the difference. They are putting together a great 2013 class and I want to be a part of it."
German will be the signal-caller in offensive coordinator Curtis Neill's spread system. While former head coach David Jones took the Kerrville Tivy job, new Cypress Woods coach Trent Faith had no intentions of letting Neill get away.
"I'm so excited about this season and Coach Neill is an offensive genius," German said. "You have to be able to run and throw in his system and I can do both. You have to take charge of the field as well and I feel like I'm a good leader."
