Home » Girls' Volleyball NewsAssumption's Katie George Collects HonorsJanuary 4, 2012 VYPE MAGAZINE - Greater LouisvilleBy George Nunnelley Just this past summer, Katie George was lying in a bed at Kosair Children’s Hospital after complications from having her tonsils removed caused blood clots in her lung. Initially, Katie was told that she would not play volleyball this fall. However, those who know Katie would tell you that there was never a chance to keep her off the court. After being named MVP of the high-profile Fall Durango Classic, it was evident that her summer setback was not an issue. By the end of the 2011 season, the 5-foot-10 senior setter and outside hitter had led her Assumption Rockets to a state championship and had been named Miss Kentucky Volleyball. She also was selected as an Under Armour second team All-American, ESPN and MaxPreps first team All American, as well as Gatorade Kentucky Volleyball Player of the Year. Her stats for her senior year are impressive: 683 assists, 197 digs, 114 kills and 75 service aces. In addition, Katie is a 4.0 student and the president of Assumption’s senior class. Her performance on and off the court has put her in contention as a finalist for the Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year. Katie plans to continue playing the game that she loves next fall for the University of Louisville under head coach Anne Kordes.
