Home » Athletics NewsVYPE Welcomes Two Summer Interns!June 7, 2011 By Betty Coffman of VYPE MAGAZINE - Greater LouisvilleTwo new interns have joined the VYPE team for this summer. While they are on break from college, they're ready to learn the ropes and hopefully have some fun. The have some great, fresh ideas for us and will help keep VYPE in tune with student-athletes. McKenzie Masters, a 2010 Christian Academy alumna, was the VYPE/Republic Bank 2010 Athlete of the Year and now is a sophomore journalism/mass communication major at Samford University. McKenzie played field hockey and lacrosse at CAL. "I hope to improve my journalism skills this summer by immersing myself in the world of writing for VYPE," she says. Joe Montano was a member of St. Xavier's class of 2008 and now is a senior at Western Kentucky University, where he is studying corporate communications. "I love living on “The Hill,” but Louisville will always be my home," Joe says. "I joined VYPE as an intern because of the wonderful opportunity to write about and experience the world of high school sports—which I love!" While he was at St. X, Joe was on the track and football teams. He also played for the WKU football team for two years. Joe's extended family was profiled in VYPE's Family Affair department in 2008. With siblings and cousins involved in high school sports, Joe brings a great perspective on many sports to VYPE. McKenzie and Joe are both already hard at work on some special projects and writing assignments for our upcoming issues. Watch for their bylines later this summer.
