Sacred Heart Takes Field Hockey Title

Sacred Heart claimed the state field hockey title Wednesday night with an exciting 1-0 overtime victory or rival Assumption. The winning goal was scored by senior Katherine English with just over one minute to play in the overtime period.

Defense had been the name of the game with both schools being denied scoring opportunities throughout the match. In fact, the Valkyries pitched a shutout throughout the tournament, allowing no goals. Junior goalkeeper Caroline Fowler turned in a stellar performance as did the entire defense.
