Home » Field Hockey News40th Annual Apple Tournament August 24-26, 2012August 23, 2012 By Betty Coffman of VYPE MAGAZINE - Greater LouisvilleThe 40th Annual Apple Field Hockey Tournament begins tomorrow and runs through Sunday at Sacred Heart. The invitational tournament features three divisions of varsity play as well as JV and freshman divisions. A special 40th anniversary event will be held on Saturday at 5 pm at Horton Field for coaches and players who have participated in Apple Tournaments over the years. Play begins Friday at 4:30 pm. Admission is $6.00 per day for adults, $4.00 for seniors & students. The Green Apple Championship game will be played on Horton Field at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, August 25. The Red Apple Championship game will be played on Horton Field at 2:30 p.m., Sunday August 26.

The Apple Tournament began in 1973 in honor of Constance Applebee's 100th Birthday. Ms. Applebee, a native of England, introduced the game of field hockey to the United States in 1901. The late Bunny Daughtery, former SHA coach, athletic director and friend, founded the tournament at Sacred Heart Academy in 1973.
