Home » Boys' Golf NewsBoy's KHSAA Golf Season Begins with 5-Star General Lafayette InvitationalJuly 30, 2012 By Dave Spoelker of VYPE MAGAZINE - Greater LouisvilleThe KHSAA High School season kicked off last week as the 5-STAR GENERAL LAFAYETTE INVITATIONAL was held at the Gay Brewer, Jr. Course at Picadome in Lexington. A top field of boys teams and individuals teed it up under perfect conditions. The Colts of West Jessamine High School captured the team title with a 1-under par 287 to win by 10 shots over the Gold Team from St. Xavier High School. Finishing in 3rd was the Green Team from St. Xavier with a score of 304. Corbin High School was next at 307 while Lexington Catholic finished in 5th place with a team total of 309. West Jessamine, one of the top teams this season, was lead by Travis Rose who fired a 5-under par 67. Fred Allen Meyer had a 2-under par 70 as Connor Haas rode his DOUBLE EAGLE on the par 5 10th hole to finish at 1-under par. Byron Speach's 79 concluded the team scoring for the Colts. In the individual competition, defending state champion Stephen Stallings, Jr. (67) of St. Xavier's Green Team beat Rose on the first hole of a sudden death playoff to capture the top prize. Billy Tom Sargent of Scott Co. and Connor Maguet of Corbin finished in a tie for third place, shooting 68. Cooper Musselman lead the St. Xavier Gold team with a 2-under par 70 to tie with Meyer for 5th place. Tyler McDaniel of Clay Co. and Matthew Mahle of Lexington Catholic tied for 7th place with Haas at 71.
