Home » Football NewsClass 3A and 2A -- The More the MerrierOctober 26, 2012 VYPE MAGAZINE - HoustonBy John Kelly CSN Houston Earlier this week, the UIL announced plans to add a fourth playoff team in all districts in 2A and 3A classifications. The announcement brings those classifications in line with the larger 4A and 5A, which has had four teams in each district reach the playoffs for the past six seasons.
The announcement also brings more ammunition to those that say the additional playoff teams will lessen the importance of the regular season and further dilute the quality of teams that earn their way into postseason play. That, essentially, the playoffs have become the high school equivalent of a participation trophy.
To those who want to limit the number of teams in the playoffs, there is one word to describe them, killjoys.
