Texas once again game out on top in the nightcap of the Southwest Showdown, albeit not in as convincing fashion as their Texas counterparts DeSoto.

Euless Trinity muscled their way on the ground to a tough victory against four-time defending Oklahoma 6A champion Tulsa Union by a score of 21-18.

The Trojans took the lead first with a touchdown rush from senior quarterback Matt Hawkins, but Justin Silmon and the Redskins came right back with a score of their own to close the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Trinity struck again late with a touchdown only to see Union kick a field before halftime.

It looked like Silmon made a dire mistake in the 4th, fumbling the ball inside their own 10-yard line. However, the Union defense made a goal-line-stand on 4th down from the 1-yard line keeping the score at 14-10.

Both teams then went on to score another touchdown making the score 21-18 with just over three minutes to go.

This time Union made the critical mistake, fumbling the punt return with under two minutes to go allowing Trinity to ice the clock.

Both teams now stand at 1-1, while Trinity has the week to prepare for another very tough game this weekend against DeSoto.
