FW All Saints QB TJ Millweard commits to UCLA

January 17, 2012
VYPE MAGAZINE - Fort Worth

Fort Worth All Saints isn’t known as a college quarterback factory. Maybe it should be.

Class of 2012 quarterback TJ Millweard has committed to UCLA after dropping commitments to Virginia Tech in June and Arizona State this week.

Millweard, rated among the nation’s top 10 quarterback recruits, visited the UCLA campus this weekend. He credited new UCLA offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone, who recruited him as Arizona State's OC, for luring him to Westwood.

Millweard’s Arizona State commitment was considered tenuous after the firing of head coach Dennis Erickson and the hiring of Todd Graham from Pitt.

Millweard (6-4, 230) is the third All Saints quarterback to earn major college scholarships of late. All Saints’ alum Doak Raulston transferred to Tennessee after he signed with Vols coach Derek Dooley in 2009 during his term at Louisiana Tech. Millweard is the second quarterback to work under All Saints coach Aaron Beck, who coached potential California starter Brock Mansion at ESD before taking over at All Saints.

“TJ is like Brock and Doak in that he can make all the big-boy throws,” Beck said. “They can hit that right hash to the far sideline consistently. Brock is an (athletic) freak. He’s 6-6, 250 and the football looks like a baseball. Doak was a good runner for us but T.J. has unbelievable pocket presence. He glides away from pressure and has good open field speed. He’s also a great student of the game, which all kids at the next level have to be.”

Millweard also is another protégé of former Texas A&M quarterback Kevin Murray, who has worked with dozens of the state’s top quarterbacks in recent years. Murray’s Air14 quarterback camps have become a staple for many North Texas quarterbacks.

“Kevin does a great job,” Beck said. “I feel very comfortable with T.J. working with him and can really see the progress through the off-season.”
