Home » Athletics NewsThe Highlands Savanna Dinkel named Wendy's High School Heisman finalistNovember 2, 2012 By Tim Polzer of VYPE DFW Private SchoolsIrving The Highlands' volleyball player Savanna Dinkel has been selected as one of 20 finalists for the Wendy's High School Heisman. The award honors high school seniors for excellence in academics, athletics and community leadership. Dinkel helped The Highlands to a 24-6 record this season, before losing to Flower Mound Coram Deo Academy in the TAPPS Regional final. More than 2,600 Texas students applied for the award, according to a release. The state winners, one boy and one girl, will be announced on November 5 and become finalists for the national award, scheduled to be announced December 7, the day before the Heisman Trophy is awarded to the nation's top college football player.
