20 girls basketball teams to watch this weekend

Which area girls teams are in the mix for playoff berths halfway through their district schedules? VYPE DFW reveals the teams to watch:

20 Teams To Watch

Argyle Liberty Christian

Liberty’s girls, led by Nicole Kornet, are 24-2 and join John Paul II atop the TAPPS 1-5A standings.

 

Bishop Lynch

The Lady Friars began the season as favorites to win their 10th straight TAPPS state title but they’re 2-2 in TAPPS 1-5A play.

 

Cedar Hill

The Lady Longhorns made surprising run to 5A state tournament last season but now find themselves in a very tough 5-5A district.

 

Colleyville Heritage

A healthy Alexia Standish and Morgan Hunt have the Lady Panthers making a run at Irving MacArthur for the District 6-5A lead.

 

DeSoto

The Lady Eagles, led by Chelsea Gardner, are 21-4, including a big win over top-ranked Frisco Wakeland.

 

Duncanville

The 20-6 Pantherettes feature three DI signees including Bunny Williams.

 

Frisco Liberty

RedHawks return four starters determined to push Wakeland and Frisco in District 9-4A.

 

Frisco Wakeland

Offensive MVP Haley Texada leads the second-ranked Wolverines, last year’s 4A state runner-up.

 

Irving MacArthur

Odyssey Sims is now at Baylor, but Alexis Jones is a dominating force for Coach Suzie Oelschlegel.

 

John Paul II

Blair Taylor (15.6 ppg, 2.5 assists) and Hunter Schwantz (8.2 rebs) have helped the Cardinals to the top of TAPPS 1-5A heading into tonight’s showdown with Liberty Christian.

 

Kennedale

Lady Kats are 13-6 behind four starters including all-state pick Desiree Scott.

 

Lancaster

The Lady Tigers are 19-3 including a big win over 15-4A rival West Mesquite

 

Mansfield Summit

Coach Tammy Lusinger’s squad has made the best of moving down a class, sitting atop District 7-4A.

 

Mansfield Timberview

Coach Candi Harvey has the defending 4A state champs holding their own in District 5-5A.

 

Mesquite Poteet

Shanovia Gamblin (15.6 ppg, 3.5 apg) and Ashley Murphy (8.7 rebs) have helped Poteet rise into the mix of District 15-4A race.

 

North Crowley

District MVP Natalie Ventress and Chelsea Jennings are each averaging 18 ppg respectively.

 

Plano West

The Lady Wolves, led by all-district pick Rachel Wilson, are 19-5 and on top in District 8-5A.

 

Rockwall

Coach Jill McDill squad includes all-district picks Alyssa Lang and Kayla Smith.

 

Southlake Carroll

Three starters including D1 recruit Sierra Maykus has helped Carroll fight to the top of a tough District 7-5A.

 

West Mesquite

Sha’Georgia Williams (14.2 ppg, 8.3 apg) and Kierra Davis (9.1 rebs) give West one of the area’s best one-two combos.
