Home » Athletics NewsFeb./March VYPE DFW Magazine Cover RevealFebruary 15, 2013 By Tim Polzer of VYPE MAGAZINE - DFWIf you’re a student-athlete or parent who has spent time with fingers crossed on making the cut of a high school sports team, you know that it’s a number game. High school sports media can be a numbers game, too. Here are some numbers we’ve dealt with in putting this month’s issue of VYPE High School Magazine together:
Yep, that last number jumps out at you. We’ve listed almost 800 VYPE DFW area student-athletes who proudly signed to take their game to the next level – college. As much as we’d like to think we’ve got it covered, we’re probably missing some names. That’s how big an impact the VYPE DFW area has on college sports. It’s a sign of the dedication these student-athletes, parents, coaches and schools have in competing on the field and in life. Another large number of student-athletes – including baseball and softball players -- signed during the early signing period in November. Which brings us back to the main theme of this month’s issue: a 2013 Baseball & Softball Preview. The cover features two notable players -- Rockwall-Heath's Bret Boswell and Birdville's Susan Welborn -- whose teams could make state title runs. Spring is in the air and the pair is among the thousands of VYPE DFW area baseball and softball players warming up for state title runs. Those games will again provide one of the best entertainment values around, so go out and support your local team. In November, we’ll spotlight those baseball and softball players from the Class of 2014 who sign early letters of intent. We’ll track down those names and help celebrate their accomplishments, too. Sometimes numbers games can be a good thing.
