Birdville, Plano East earn high preseason state softball rankings

Birdville will begin the season No. 1 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association preseason softball rankings. The Lady Hawks (31-7) lost to Waco Midway in the Region I final last season. They return All-VYPE Greater Fort Worth Most Valuable Player Susan Welborn.

Plano East and Forney were the only VYPE DFW area teams to qualifty for the 2012 state high school tournament, both losing in semifinals. Both teams are favorites to make another run in the postseason according to the TGCA rankings.

Plano East (35-4) will reload with All-VYPE Collin County Most Valuable Player Holly Kern and Rachel Scott now playing for the University of Texas.

Forney (32-8-2) will attempt to make the 4A state tournament for the third straight year after losing in the 2011 state final.
