Home » Football NewsAllen soph QB Kyler Murray gets Ohio State offerMarch 8, 2013 By David McNabb of VYPE MAGAZINE - DFWMarch 8 Ohio State has offered Allen sophomore quarterback Kyler Murray, who led Allen to the Class 5A Division I state title as a sophomore starter. Murray ('15) is a dual threat quarterback who got the offer Friday morning said his father _ former Texas A&M quarterback Kevin Murray who also has emerged as one of the country's top QB coaches. Former Allen quarterback Alex Morris worked with Murray and signed in 2012 with Alabama. Kyler Murray's speed and accurate throwing helped Ohio State coach Urban Meyer pull the trigger with an offer. Ohio State signed Wichita Falls Rider quarterback JT Barrett (6-1, 210) signed with Ohio State and is rehabbing from major knee surgery in Columbus. Murray has been offered by Clemson and is being evaluated by Texas A&M for the Class of 2015. Allen soph QB Kyler Murray gets first college offer Jan. 7 Leave it to a Texas state champion coach, to value a Texas state champion quarterback. Even if Allen quarterback Kyler Murray is only a 15-year-old sophomore, Murray was impressive in leading Allen to the Class 5A Division I state championship a week ago. Murray received his first college scholarship offer from Clemson and its highly prized offensive coordinator Chad Morris, who led Lake Travis to Texas high school state titles before moving into college coaching. With touchdown runs of 55- and 68-yards in the state final over Houston Lamar, Murray capped a breakout season after taking over as Allen's starting quarterback midway through the season. Murray (5-11, 170) was one of less than a half-dozen Class of 2015 quarterbacks who were invited to the regional Elite 11 competition last spring at Cowboys Stadium under ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer. Kyler's dad, Kevin Murray, a former Texas A&M standout, is one of the country's top quarterback coaches and also works for the Elite 11 national staff. Kyler Murray transferred to Allen from Lewisville during last summer. Kyler likely will grow a few inches closer to Kevin's 6-2. But Kyler's speed, accuracy and footwork already have elevated him to elite status. Kevin Murray's work with former Allen quarterback Alec Morris (no relation to Chad) actually was criticial in Morris signing with Alabama's Class of 2012. "It's worked out great with how Kyler works with Kevin," Allen offensive coordinator Jeff Fleener said. "Kyler is so sound technically. In practice, we can work on plays, reads, formations and executions. We don't have to spend 20 minutes every day going over how to take a 3-step drop and throw left. Kyler already knows how to do that stuff and does drills every day himself." Clemson's Morris has strong Texas ties. Morris led Lake Travis to state championships in 2008 and 2009 (Morris also led Bay City to a 2000 title) before starting his college career at Tulsa. A Texas A&M grad, Morris has been at Clemson two seasons. Clemson is coming off a dramatic Chick-fil-A Bowl victory over LSU. Kyler's scholarship offers likely are to expand quickly in the spring with early interest from Texas A&M, Baylor, TCU and Texas Tech already eyeing a versatile, speedy dual-threat quarterback becoming the dominant trend in major college offenses rather than focusing on less-mobile, taller, pro-style quarterback prospects. Added Jan. 4: Kyler attended Texas A&M's Cotton Bowl victory over Oklahoma at Cowboys Stadium. Using the field box tickets given to his dad, Kevin Murray, who was selected to the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame last summer for leading A&M to a Cotton Bowl victory over Bo Jackson and Auburn. Kyler, by the way, sat at the A&M table for the HOF ceremony which included Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin.
