Home » Golf NewsMarcus golfer Max Schwolert dies of flu complicationsJanuary 7, 2013 By Tim Polzer of VYPE MAGAZINE - DFWMarcus High School students and teammates are among the many mourning the death of Max Schwolert due to complications from the flu. Schwolert, a 17-year-old member of the Marcus golf team, died on Dec. 29 after the flu turned to pneumonia, followed by a fatal staph infection, according to his parents in a WFAA.com report. Schwolert was returning from a family trip to Wisconsin when he died in a Minnesota hospital. "It really kind of hit him on the night of the 25th," Max's aunt, Michelle Schwolert, told WFAA.com. "[We] took him to the hospital, and from there, it was very quick. There was a point of no return." The Marcus golf team, coach and boosters are among those mourning and remembering their teammate. "I still can't believe it," teammate Dillon Mauboules, told WFAA.com. Mauboules, worked with Max at Bridlewood Golf Club and played basketball with him the day before he left on vacation. "Don't take life for granted," Dillon said. "And live to the Max." Marcus golf coach, Craig Koch reportedly plans to host a memorial tournament in Max’s honor, and funds have been set up to aid the Schwolert family and in honor of his youth ministries work at Faith Lutheran Church. Colleen Mauboules, a family friend, posted updates on the last days of Max's life and his memory on Facebook.
