Home » Football NewsPlayoff Preview: Plano West vs. Austin WestlakeDecember 8, 2012 By Tim Polzer of VYPE MAGAZINE - DFWPlano West vs. Austin Westlake 2 pm, Saturday at Waco ISD Stadium Plano West (9-4) is making history with the school’s deepest football playoff run. Running back Sotonye Jamabo, a sophomore, has been the Wolves’ sledgehammer, scoring 13 touchdowns and averaging 169 rushing yards in three playoff games. Quarterback Travis Korry and running back Auston Anderson have helped keep defenses from totally keying on Jamabo, each with games of 145-yards or more in the postseason. West defensive tackle Mason Gentry, a 6-7, 250-pound senior, has gained interest from recruiters during the Wolves’ playoff run. Austin Westlake (9-4) has thrived on defense and special teams in the playoffs, scoring three defensive touchdowns last week against Longview and recovering a fumble for touchdown against A&M Consolidated. Westlake, the school that has produced NFL quarterbacks Drew Brees (New Orleans) and Nick Foles (Philadelphia), has won eight straight games after a 1-3 start – including losses to state-ranked Cibolo Steele and A&M Consolidated – after quarterback Jordan Stewart became the Chaparrals’ fulltime starter.
