Southlake Carroll vs. Euless Trinity: Why Birdville?

November 29, 2012
By David McNabb of VYPE MAGAZINE - DFW

Topic of the Week: Why are Southlake Carroll and Euless Trinity playing at 12,000-seat Birdville Fine Arts/Athletics Complex when the last time they played it drew nearly 50,000 at Texas Stadium in 2006. Trinity and Carroll will play at 6 p.m. Saturday _ about 20 minutes each away from their campuses.

Simple answer: It's easy travel (20 minute bus rides), best time (not early, not late), best field conditions and less distractions for player and coaches. While SLC v Trinity is a Super Bowl for many, the players, coaches and staff aren't wanting to set up a Super Bowl event in less than a week and then try and move forward to Round 4 without being exhausted.

Wrapup from Southlake Carroll ISD athletic director Kevin Ozee:

"Birdville was mutually agreed on ahead of time by Trinity and us some time ago.  We work weeks in advance reserving stadiums and planning games.
For round 3, Cowboys Stadium was not available. SMU and UNT were not options. UTA, Mansfield, and Birdville all seat about the same. The Cotton Bowl and TCU are grass fields and most high school coaches do not like to play on grass this time of year."

With the ease of Cowboys Stadium (or Texas Stadium in '06) out of the scenario to make game management more simple, the primary reason for Carroll and Trinity to move wouold have been to sell more tickets _ and that would bring a lot of second-guessing too.

Maybe a Good Outcome will be a live TV broadcast.
