Home » Football NewsPrestonwood Christian's Mickey Mitchell out with torn ACLNovember 6, 2012 By David McNabb of VYPE MAGAZINE - DFWPrestonwood Christian's heralded sophomore Mickey Mitchell is out for the remainder of the football season and the entire basketball season with a torn ACL. VYPEDFW reported Monday that Mitchell's seasons likely were in jeopardy because of a knee injury suffered in last Friday's loss to Bishop Lynch. PCA coach Chris Cunningham would only confirm Monday: "We do not have the MRI results back yet. should know something in a couple of days.' Mitchell's father Ken confirmed to the Allen American on Tuesday afternoon Mitchell suffered a torn ACL. Mitchell left the field in the first quarter with what appeared to be a serious leg injury. He had three rushing attempts but no passes in PCA's eventual loss to Bishop Lynch. After starting as a freshman last season, Mitchell has thrown for 1,855 yards, 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions while rushing for 773 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior. ACL surgery requires six to nine months of extensive rehab. Mitchell could return to play in some summer basketball late next season. Mitchell has always been a two-sport star and has multiple major college scholarships to play both sports. It remains to be seen whether Mitchell will return to just one sport, which likely would be basketball given his potential. Mitchell already is placed in a category of youth basketball player which would project him to be an NBA draft pick after one year of college. The 6-7 Mitchell is considered one of the state's top Class of 2015 quarterback prospects but he is regarded by many as the top basketball prospect for his class as a point guard. Mitchell is part of a highly rated PCA basketball team with 6-9 senior Julius Randle, considered one of the top players for the Class of 2013. Mitchell's older brother Mike Mitchell is one of the nation's top linebacking recruits who has not yet committed but is being pursued heavily by Texas A&M, Ohio State, Oklahoma and many others. The 6-5 Mike Mitchell also is a standout on PCA's basketball team. VYPEDFW earlier report on Mickey Mitchell: A 6-7 Mike Vick?
