Coppell names Pehl to replace Chasteen

June 21, 2012
By David McNabb of VYPE MAGAZINE - DFW

Coppell has named Kit Pehl as new boys basketball coach according to Coppell ISD athletic director John Crawford. Pehl, a former Coppell assistant, guided Keller Central to its first district title last season since the school opened in 2003. Pehl replaces Brad Chasteen, who had 529 victories in 24 years. Coppell has been to the state playoffs 14 of Chasteen’s 16 seasons including a trip to the 1999 state tournament. Chasteen was named the The Dallas Morning News’s 1992 Coach of the Year. Chasteen spent eight seasons at South Grand Prairie (alma mater ’75.) Chasteen is retiring from public school to coach full-time at a Flower Mound-based, ninth-grade freshman basketball program.

Pehl has developed Central into a state playoff qualifier in three of the last five seasons. Central was eliminated in the first round by Hebron last season.
