ABOUT OUR POLLS

Most media including newspapers, magazines, TV stations, radio stations, websites, and now even Facebook, run polls for a variety of reasons. Mostly, to drive traffic and provide ‘eyeballs’ for sponsors and advertisers but, polls can also gauge public interest and preferences while letting audiences have their say. “Best of This”, “Best of That”…you get the idea and may have voted in a recent poll. Even “American Idol”, “So You Think You Can Dance” and a slew of popular reality shows utilize polls to determine who stays, who goes, and eventually who wins. Most of these polls let the audience vote as many times as they choose. In can be argued that in many cases, it’s a popularity contest. However, it takes an extreme amount of talent for individuals to be in a position to be voted as “The Best”.

VYPE DFW has recognized the outstanding accomplishments of student-athletes since our inception. Our annual All-VYPE Teams, Most Valuable Players, Players of the Week, etc., have always been selected utilizing specific industry standard criteria.

To ensure that the most deserving student-athletes are recognized, a blue-chip panel of sports industry professionals including VYPE staff nominate and select  VYPE DFW MVPs, All-VYPE Teams, Players of the Week, and the like, based on pre-determined criteria and stats, staff analysis and input from coaches, etc.

Inevitably, we receive calls and emails from proud parents and fans wondering why their student-athlete wasn’t recognized in a manner they feel is deserved. In an effort to recognize additional deserving student athletes on a bigger stage, ‘VYPEDFW.com Readers’ Choice Polls’ were developed.

Utilizing the same lists as voted on by our blue-chip voting panel, VYPEDFW.com runs a series of annual Readers’ Choice Polls which now allow teammates, fans, boosters, family and friends to have their say. You can cast your votes for which players you think deserve top honors such as All-VYPE Most Valuable Player or which student-athletes should appear on future special inside Readers’ Choice covers.

The Readers' Choice winner is just that...a chance for readers to vote for their choice.

There are a variety of industry standards and opinions regarding polls, and we're following a set of standards that we believe suits our audience and area. We'll continue to fine-tune the process as technology and participation evolves.

We appreciate your passion for high school sports and hope that by participation, you will continue to help VYPE accomplish our mission of celebrating the accomplishments of student athletes.
