Two-time state long jump and defending state triple jump champion Devin Fields has been ruled ineligible this season after transferring to DeSoto.

VYPEDFW.com reported March 9 that Field's elibibility was in doubt pending a move from Lancaster. The Dallas Morning News' Matt Wixon reported Thursday that Field has been ruled ineligible by the UIL. Field had started the 2011-12 school year at Port Arthur Memorial with his mother last summer because his grandmother was ill, but Field moved to DeSoto in November and is living with a family friend while his mother still lives in Port Arthur.

At Lancaster, Field won consecutive Class 4A long jump state titles and the 2011 triple jump. The All-VYPE Male Track Athlete of the Year and Dallas Morning News’ All-Area Male Track Athlete of the Year in 2011 as a sophomore, Field is competing in the Junior Varsity division of high school meets but is continuing his national competition schedule in preparation the USA Junior Track & Field Championships in June.

Field trains daily with DeSoto but also competes for the Texas Faces Track Club along with Plano East’s Jennifer Madu, an international U.S. junior team qualifier.
