Self-Morgan’s players donned black t-shirts bearing “900” following Duncanville’s 91-28 win over South Grand Prairie, Tuesday night. The win raises Self-Morgan (900-199) among an elite group of Texas high school girls coaches, behind only Leta Andrews (Granbury), Joe Lombard (Canyon), Dean Weese (Levelland), Tommy Aldridge (Longview), as well as, former Duncanville coaching legend Sandra Meadows, who had 907 career wins. After starring at the University of Texas, Self-Morgan began her coaching career at Austin Westlake, where she won three state titles (1993, ’95 and ’96) before taking the Duncanville job 12 years ago. Since then, Self-Morgan has coached Duncanville to a state title in 2003 and the state final in 2004. This year’s Pantherettes team is 25-1, nationally ranked and No. 1 among 5A schools in Texas. She has never had a losing season as a coach. Self-Morgan was named the National High School Girls Basketball Coach of the Year in 2010, has been named the Texas High School Girls Basketball Coach of the Year four times and the Centex Coach of the Year 10 times. She was inducted into the University of Texas Hall of Honor in 2004.
