FOOTBALL

McKinney 55, Mansfield Legacy 46

Zero Week football action included McKinney’s explosive – and emotional – win over Mansfield Legacy. The Lions opened 2012 with a victory, after going winless in 2011.

McKinney’s offense was virtually unstoppable, producing 626 yards of total offense. McKinney quarterback, Robert Somborn completed 16 of 26 passes for 241 yards and four touchdowns. Running back, Tommy Candela ran for 202 yards and two touchdowns, while Jonathan Shannon added 138 rushing yards and two touchdowns. TV Williams and Connor Fuentes had two touchdown catches, each.

McKinney (1-0) hosts Frisco Heritage at Ron Poe Stadium, Thursday at 7:30.

 

Mesquite Horn 38, McKinney Boyd 20

Boyd running back Bryan Driskell, VYPE's 2011 Collin County Offensive Player of the Year and VYPE DFW preseason Game Changer, Bryan Driskell rushed 19 times for 114 yards and two touchdowns, and Curtis Ladd added 44 yards on seven carries against Horn. Driskell averaged eight yards a carry in the first half, including a 40-yard TD gallop. He added a 15-yard TD in the second half. Boyd quarterback, Curtis Ladd also threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver, Kevin McCormick.

McKinney Boyd (0-1) travels to Coppell, Friday at 7:30 p.m.

 

Carr. Newman Smith 21, McKinney North 17

Newman Smith’s defense thwarted North’s late come-from-behind bid in their season-opener.

North quarterback, Ben Dutze passed for 199 yards and two touchdowns, including scoring strikes to wide receivers, Tre Sanders and Gabe Constintine. Running back, Tre Smith rushed for 98 yards on 23 carries. Anthony Lozoya opened the scoring with a 21-yard field goal.

McKinney North (0-1) plays Prosper at Ron Poe Stadium, Friday at 7:30 p.m.



Garland Christian 55, McKinney Christian 27

Connor Doyle rushed for 240 yards on 36 carries and scored three touchdowns against Garland Christian.

McKinney Christian (0-1) hosts First Baptist, Friday at 7:30 p.m.

 

VOLLEYBALL

McKinney Boyd outside hitter, Kaley Seaber was named to the Arlington Invitational all-tournament team. Seaber helped lead the Lady Broncos to the championship bracket, where they finished fifth in a strong field.

Seaber and teammate, Megan Mollett, also participated in a photo shoot for the cover of VYPE High School Sports Magazine’s “Volleyball Issue” to be published later this month.
