February 2, 2012
VYPE MAGAZINE - Collin CountyDavid McNabb of VYPEDFW.com got this request from the the family of former Plano and current Nebraska running back Rex Burkhead to help raise awareness for the 2012 Uplifting Athletes of Rare Disease Champion Award. It would be uplifting for a young friend - Jack Hoffman - of Rex and his family to show support by simply voting for Rex here: LINK
Here's more information from Rex's dad Rick:
All:
I normally do not send email of this nature, but my youngest son Rex is one of four finalists for the 2012 Uplifting Athletes Rare Disease Champion Award. More importantly, Rex and the other three finalists have brought awareness to help kids with rare diseases and disorders. As some of you may know, at work we recently had our own tragic loss of an employee to a rare and horrific brain disease, so this request comes with clarity and purpose.
Below are several attachments regarding the bond and relationship Rex has developed with Jack Hoffman, a 6 year old boy that developed severe seizures, and then was subsequently diagnosed with a rare malignant brain tumor. Jack has since had surgery in Boston and part of the brain tumor was removed, alleviating his seizures for the meantime. The remaining part of the tumor is still an issue. Jack still has a long road ahead of him, but every opportunity to bring awareness to his fight will possible help save Jack’s life, as well many other children just like Little Jack.

I had the opportunity to spend time with the Hoffman family on a few occasions, and am very appreciative of the time they have allowed my family to spend with Jack and their family. Jack and I have competed against each other in several “Burp Off” contests, and Jack is definitely the “Burp Master”.
Although I am sending this email to a few select folks in hopes that you will vote for Little Jack and Rex, this is definitely one contest that cannot be lost. This would be very uplifting for the Hoffman Family.
Thank you and please feel free to forward to others that you believe will have interest in this opportunity. Please go to the last attached link and vote.

Rick Burkhead
