Plano West LB/DE Bryce Cottrell commits to Texas

Plano West LB/DE Bryce Cottrell committed to Texas on Monday evening to become the Longhorns' 27th commit who will sign a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday. Cottrell had been an Oregon commit since last summer but Texas coaches made a strong pitch to Cottrell in the last two weeks after UT hadn't him high on their list of prospects.

Cottrell (6-3, 230) visited Texas this past weekend and is one of three commits the Longhorns have picked up with commitments to other schools. Pflugerville Hendrickson ATH Taje Johnson (TCU) and LB Dalton Santos (Tennessee) also switched to Texas in the last three days.

Cottrell was a first-team All-District 8-5A selection and follows former Plano West defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat, who started at Texas last season as a sohomore. Cottrell's younger brother Lance also is considered a top college prospect for 2014 and has received scholarship offers already.
