Texas Tech's Gillispie discussed job with FM Marcus coach

CBS 11 sports anchor and VYPE TV host Bill Jones - who formerly worked in the Lubbock market - tweeted what he’d heard without mentioning names. VYPE DFW and TheOldCoach contributor David McNabb followed up with a source who confirmed: New Texas Tech basketball coach Billy Gillispie talked to Flower Mound Marcus coach Danny Henderson about signing on as an assistant.

Any conversations between the two long-time firends about joining the Tech staff never advanced past informal. Henderson told McNabb that Gillispie has not offered him a position.

Henderson coached FM Marcus to the 5A state championship earlier this month.

Henderson turned down the opportunity, perhaps lessening the odds that highly recruited FM Marcus guard Marcus Smart will wind up a Red Raider in 2012.
