Fossil Ridge WR Steven West to grayshirt

One of the area’s most prolific receivers of the 2010 area football season has picked a college program. Keller Fossil Ridge receiver Steven West had decided to accept a gray shirt offer from Kansas State. The grayshirt designation means West will enroll at Kansas State and not play football the first semester. He plans to play on scholarship in the 2012 season.

West (6-2, 195) caught 104 passes for 1,855 yards and 22 touchdowns in his junior and senior seasons at Fossil Ridge. His 4.5 speed earned him offers from Colorado State and Rice, but those were rescinded while West searched for other offers.

Fossil Ridge coach Steve Baccarini told The Dallas Morning News that he told Kansas State coaches West was “an NFL-caliber” receiver who had already qualified with a 3.54 GPA.
