Coppell coach's 500th win puts him in historic company

Coppell's 74-63 win over Keller Central Tuesday night was the 500th victory of coach Brad Chasteen.

The 23-year veteran's record now stands at 500-269. He is in his 15th season at Coppell, which leads District 7-5A with a record of 24-6 overall, 10-1 in district play.

The unofficial club of Texas high school basketball coaches inlcudes boys coaches John Gramm (Victoria East), Herb More (San Antonio Cole) and Mike Murphy (Pflugerville). Girls basketball coaches with 500 or more win include Cassandra McCurdy (Skyline), Teri Morrison (Southlake Carroll).

Mike Floyd (San Antonio Jay) and Paul Driver (Woden) each have more than 600 girls basketball wins.

Rhonda Farley (Georgetown) owns more than 900 girls basketball victories.

They all trail Granbury girls coach Leta Andrews who set a national record with her 1,334th win in December.
