Katy’s 45-33 win over then-No. 11 Steele (Cibolo, Texas) left the Tigers one win away from a 5A Division II state title. Across the state, DeSoto (Texas), ranked No. 2 in last week’s VYPE Top 25 High School Football Rankings, was dominated by then-No. 13 Allen (Texas) in a 5A Division I state semifinal. Katy and Allen will finish their seasons in their respective state finals on Saturday at Cowboys Stadium. Other state title triumphs helped shape this week’s rankings. No. 4 De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) beat then-No. 14 Centennial (Corona, Calif.), 48-28 to win the CIF Open Div. state title.
