Valpo Girls move on to State! Dubsky wins medalist in dominant fashion at Regional

September 25, 2012
Valparaiso High School

The 9th ranked Valparaiso Girls Golf team moved on to State after matching Lafayette Jeff with scores of 352 this weekend at the Lafayette Jeff Regional held at Battleground GC. Valpo finished second based on the fifth score tiebreaker.  Valpo was led by two time all state junior Harley Dubsky who dominated the field firing a 73 in extremely tough, cold, windy conditions.  Dubsky was the only player to break 80 in the field of 113 that included defending state champion and Michigan State commit Kelly Grassel from Chesterton and all state Iowa commit Allison Lindley from Western.  The 56 degree weather and 25 to 35 mph winds played havoc on the entire field and led to higher scores across the board.

Backing up Dubsky's 73 was sophomore Jennifer Gough who fired a very strong 84 which was the sixth place finish on the day.  Fellow Sophomore Brooke Fullenkamp shot a 95 and number five Lauren Caputo fired and even 100.  Valpo was playing without regular number 4 Madison Macke who suffered a season ending injury the day before regionals.  Senior Mary Rooker filled in and finished with a 106.

Valpo moves on to the State Finals at Legends GC in Franklin, IN this Friday and Saturday September 28 and 29.  The entire team will play both days this year under the new format with no cut after the first day.
