Union Freshman Selected to All-State Girls Soccer Team
July 24, 2012By Noah Assareh of Union High School Soccer
It would probably be an understatement to say that 2012 has been quite a year in the world of soccer for Union forward Bethany Coons.
Coons shattered Union's scoring records, helped lead her team to a Four Rivers Conference title, scored a golden goal in the district championship, scored the game winning goal in the Missouri State Cup Championship for her club team, and earned several conference and district accolades as a freshman.
The forward can now add First Team All-State Soccer to her resume.
It is not easy to earn First Team All-State Honors for any player, regardless of grade level. To do it as a freshman highlights her remarkable abilities and shows just how outstanding her 2012 season was.
On May 16th, Coons scored her school record-setting 55th goal of the season in overtime to lead Union (21-4) over Borgia (12-8) for Union's 4th District Championship in girls soccer since 2004. The previous single season goal scoring record for Union was 34 goals set by Brittany Bockhorst in 2006.
Beth would finish the season as one of the biggest scoring threats in Missouri with 55 goals, 13 assists, and 123 points.
Bethany is the first Union girls soccer player named to the Missouri All-State Girls Soccer Team since Ashley Lauber earned the honor in 2010 and is the fifth Union girls soccer player to do so all-time. Congratulations to Coons for a great year!
