The Union Pines softball team wrapped up its historic 2011 Cape Fear Valley Conference Championship season with a 12-1 win over league for Overhills Tuesday in Spring Lake.

One night after clinching the first fast-pitch conference title in Union Pines' history, the Vikings put the finishes touches on an undefeated (12-0) CFVC campaign by notching the six-inning league victory.

Lady Viking Carrie Marks got the complete game win on the mound. In six innings of work, the freshman pitcher allowed one run on four hits and one walk while striking out five.

Marks also turned in a big day at the plate where she went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs, two runs and a walk.

Tyler Ross helped the Union Pines offense get going from the led off spot. The sophomore turned in a 3-for-4 day with the stick, including three RBIs and three runs along with three stolen bases.

Senior Courtney Voss (2-for-2, 2 runs, RBI, SAC) and freshman Amber Williams (2-4, run, RBI), also had multiple hits for the Vikings.

Union Pines enters next week's opening round of the NCHSAA 3A state playoffs, schedule for Tuesday in Cameron, with an overall record of 15-4 and riding a six game winning streak.
