Home » Girls' Soccer NewsUP Soccer Beats Harnett CentralMarch 10, 2011 Union Pines High SchoolBY F.W. Manning II The Pilot The Union Pines Lady Viking soccer team got its second win of the week with a 2-0 victory over Harnett Central Wednesday. With the nonconference victory, which was the Vikes' second straight shutout, Union Pines is now 2-1 on the year. In the first half of the game, the Vikings were attacking into a brisk wind but still managed to dictate the pace and dominate the action. Union Pines outshot Hoke 9-2 through the first forty minutes of the match. Even so, the scoreboard read nil-nil at intermission. In the 56th minute of action sophomore Madi Kramer bent a corner kick on goal for Union Pines. The ball then deflected off a Central defender and into the back of the night as the Vikings took a 1-0 lead. Less than 90 seconds later, Vike captain Carly Lively scored on a breaker to give her squad a 2-0 cushion with 22:08 left in the game. Union Pines' goal was never seriously pressured in the second frame as the Vikes out shot Central 11-0 in the half and 19-2 overall. Next up is the Lady Vikings' Cape Fear Valley conference opener, Friday in Sanford, against Southern Lee at 7 p.m.
