Home » Boys' Soccer NewsBoys' Soccer suffers first Section defeatApril 12, 2011 By Nate Nicholas of UMS Wright Prep SchoolHello Bulldog Soccer Fans, Sorry for the late posting of the Providence Christian game from April 1. Spring Break got in the way of me writing the game recap. The Bulldogs suffered their first Section defeat and continued the strong rivalry with Providence Christian. Providence got on the board first in the first half by a goal from Brandon O'Donnell. Ums started a little slow and could not match the intensity from Providence. The second half was an exciting affair with the Bulldogs pulling back two goals to take the lead. First Pete Blankenship was played through from the outside to tie the game. Then Andy Cope by a nice piece of individual skill gave the Bulldogs the lead. The Bulldogs could not get the separating goal and Providence created a chance where Bulldog keeper Chandler Schneider was forced to foul a player in the box. Sam Dowd scored the penalty kick for Providence to tie the game back up. The Bulldogs then for the last 10 minutes put some intense pressure on Providence's goal having three balls cleared off the line and numerous other miscues in front of the goal. The second half ended in deadlock to go along with two even 5 minute periods sending the game in Kicks From The Mark (otherwise known as penalty kicks). UMS had no luck in the KFTM and lost the heartbreaker 3-1 in the penalty kicks. The next game will be played at Bayside Academy on April 12 at 7:00. This game is very important because Bayside is tied with UMS for first in the area and this game will be huge in determining the section winner. Please come loud and ready to support your Bulldogs at Bayside. Thank You Coach Nicholas
