UMS Boy's Soccer eases past Cottage Hill 7-0

April 1, 2011
By Nate Nicholas of UMS Wright Prep School

Hello again soccer fans!

UMS boys' team put in another great performance last night beating Cottage Hill 7-0 bringing their season record to 12-4 with an undefeated 6-0 section record. This win helps keep the Bulldogs in first place in the section with 4 section games left to be played. The Bulldogs will next face Providence Christian in Dothan for another section 1 battle.
The game last night started a little slow with UMS getting multiple opportunities to open up the scoring and not being able to convert their chances. However Andy Cope was able to open the scoring on a very interesting goal off a cross from Andrew Monson.  Also scoring in the first half was Pete Blankenship off a feed from Nicholas Frangos. The half ended with a score of 2-0 despite the number of opportunities given to UMS.
The second half was a different story with Frangos getting two goals off of some beautiful passing and Cope scoring his second. Also chipping in with goals were Parker Baxter and David Cadden. Chandler Schneider and Patrick Zieman combined for the shutout with Zieman getting his first minutes in the goal during a varsity match. Everyone on the team was able to play and contribute and it was good to see some of the young guys show their mettle. Probably the best part about the game was that we were able to get through it with no injuries. Well that wraps up this summary and keep the Bulldogs in mind because they meet Providence tonight and have to travel to Dothan.

Good Luck Bulldogs
Coach Nicholas
