Home » Football NewsSeymour football gameOctober 4, 2010 By Jared Jensen of Twin Cedars Jr Sr High SchoolThis was a game we came into feeling confident. The week of practice was good and we felt like we had a good game plan. We came out with a victory but it did not feel like a victory. The first half was just a mess. We did not line up to Seymour’s formations right which we worked on all week. They drilled us with the Wildcat formation because we couldn’t line up right to it. We did not play hard and we did not finish plays which is what we stressed all week long. Our offense had a lot of struggle moving the ball against Seymour. Plays we have worked on all year long that our guys should know like the back of their hand, we could not get block right. Our offensive line struggled to know who they were blocking and when they did block the right guys the effort wasn’t there. We as coaches felt like we failed with how our team was playing. With all that said we were still in the lead, up 14-12 at halftime. The second half we came out with a spark. We started running the ball like the Twin Cedars offense we have seen this season. We were blocking hard, running hard, and just playing hard which is what got us on track. Defensively we played well in the 3rd quarter for the exception of giving up a 56 yard touchdown pass as the 3rd quarter came to an end. We got pressure on their QB and didn’t give their running backs much room to run. We just gave up a deep pass which is what hurt us the rest of the game. The fourth quarter was much of the same. Our offense dominated the ground attack scoring 30 of our 58 points in the 4th quarter. We defended Seymour’s ground game alright but got torched through the air. We gave up two deep passes over our defenders for touchdowns in the 4th quarter. We just could not defend receivers down field. We were getting burnt on just about every deep ball thrown downfield. The effort defensively in the fourth quarter was un unacceptable. We did not play hard up front which gave the qb time to get the ball down field. This was a game of effort or lack there of. We did not play like we are playing for a conference championship. We played like we were just out there to go through the motions. We have two huge games in the next two weeks. If we feel like we don’t have to come out and practice hard or play hard we will have have a rude awakening ahead of us. When we come out and give it everything we have got we are a good football team. When we come out and just go through the motions on plays we are an average football team. If we want to be the best, we have to play our best, and when we play our best if gives us a chance to beat the best. I am waiting to see how the kids respond.
