After waiting for over an hour to kick off because of a lightning delay and pouring down rain we were able to take the field and get our first win over the Tri-County Trojans since they joined 8-man football. After having to punt on our first offensive drive our defense came up big forcing the Trojans to punt. Dustin Richards got though the line and up-backs to block the punt which rolled in the end zone and was recovered by Richards for a Touchdown. Our offense got rolling in the first quarter after the burst of energy from the blocked punt. Totaling 55 yards rushing on 12 carries in the first quarter with two touchdowns. Once again in the first quarter Dustin Richards came up big blocking another punt which gave us great field position. Again our special teams came up huge in the second quarter with Mark Rowley blocking a punt which was picked up by Trenton Beebe and ran back for a touchdown. Our offense also punched the ball in for two more touchdowns. The Trojans slowed us down in the second quarter though only allowing us 27 yds rushing on 14 attempts. The passing game was a no go with pouring down rain and sloppy field conditions. Ball control played a big roll in the game. We only put the ball on the ground three times losing one of them. the second half we came out and pounded the ball down the field. We had 11 rushes for 50 yds and one touchdown. That TD sent the clock into continuous clock which ended up being our last score. We added 31 more yards on 9 carries in the final quarter.
Our defense was huge all game long. We played the hardest we have played up to this point in the year. Forcing the Trojans to punt seven times as well as causing eight fumbles only coming up with two of them. They came out ready to destroy only giving up 23 yards on 22 carries in the first half. The second half was the same story with our defense holding the Trojans from getting any drives going. We held the trojans to 12 carries for 35 yards and one pass for six yards. They started to get a few plays for some big gains but our defense held tough not letting the goose egg slip out of our hands.
Overall with the conditions we faced we played as well as our coaching staff had hoped. We new it was going to be a grind it out game and we were prepared for that. Even though we did not get any big plays on offense we ran the ball consistently and our backs ran harder as the game progressed. We are pleased with the effort and the win. We are looking forward to the big rivalry game that we have this week with Melcher. It should be a good one.
