Murray Football Game
September 29, 2010By Jared Jensen of Twin Cedars Jr Sr High School
Murray Mustangs 31
Twin Cedars 14
We came out in the first half and were not ready for the fast pace physical play. Our first half was plagued with fumbles. Two of our first three run plays were fumbles which gave the ball to the Mustangs with great field position. Having five fumbles and one interception in the first half, did not give our offense a chance to get anything going. The second half we had no fumbles but had 2 interceptions. We did start moving the ball on the Mustang defense in the second half racking up 158 yards of our 159 yards rushing for the game. While our passing game the first half was the only thing working, throwing for 118 of our 143 yards for the game.
Defensively we were did not look that great but held the Murray offense in check for most of the first half. Holding them to 6 points in the first quarter was huge as many times as we gave them the ball with great field position. We did give up a couple big pass plays in the first half for touchdowns. Although we did not play very well we were lucky we held the Mustang offense to three scores which our defense made plays when we had to have them. The second half we saw a complete change in the attitude of our team. We started playing a lot more physical and making plays which boosted our whole team and got us back in the game. With a KO return for a touchdown called back for a block in the back and two more turnovers in the second half we just could not over come the mistakes.
The second half of the game as a coaching staff we were pleased with the effort of the guys. They never gave up and kept fighting. We got the score to a 10 point game with 4 minutes to go in the game with a score of 24-14. We had a couple chances to get in the endzone but were held on 4th down giving murray the ball back and running the clock down scoring again with 28 seconds left in the game.
