Uploading Photos to Your iHigh.com Website

When uploading photos, try to use the original image resolution - in other words, don't crop the image to much smaller dimensions. Since iHigh gives you the option of selling your photos to fans, you will want to keep the image resolution as high as possible to keep any prints looking clear and detailed.

Before You Upload: Before uploading your photos, you will want to make sure the photos are properly oriented to display on the screen. If any photo appears sideways, you should use your photo editing software to rotate it to the proper orientation. If you do not have photo editing software, you can rotate photos using iHigh's Bulk Upload tool.

How to Upload a Single Photo to Use With an Article

First, you must be logged in to your iHigh account to upload a photo. For this example, we'll add a single photo to use with an article. Click on the "Write a new article" link under Your Website Tools.

Fill in the Article fields as you normally would, choosing which section to publish it in, adding a Title, Teaser and the story text.

Now we'll add a photo to display with the article. To the right of the Write a Story or Article pane, click on the "Add Photos" button.

If you have previously uploaded photos to the section, they will show up on this page. For this example, we will add the first photo to the Girls' Soccer section to use with our article. Next to the "Create a new photo gallery here" text, click the "Go" button.

You will now see the photo upload window. Fill in the field for the photo's "Name", and you can add a Description if you wish. Then click the "Browse" button.

Find the photo on your computer that you wish to add to the article, and double-click.

The file path to the photo will now appear in the "Add Photo" field. Then just click the "Upload" button.

You will now see the thumbnail version of the photo. Now click the "Save" button.

Now you will see the full photo, which has also been attached to the article. Back on your school's home page, you will now see the thumbnail of the photo next to the article.

Click on the article's Title, and you will see how the photo is automatically incorporated into the article.

Uploading A Photo Gallery Using the Bulk Upload Tool

Again, you must be logged in to your iHigh account to upload photos. For this example, we'll create a photo gallery. Click on the "Add new photos" link under Your Website Tools.

This will bring up a list of your existing photo galleries. You can click on any of the existing links to create a new photo gallery in that section. If the section is not listed, you can choose it in the drop-down box next to the "Create a new photo gallery in section" text, located underneath the list. For this tutorial, we'll select "Girls' Soccer".

You will now see the photo upload window. Fill in the field for the photo's "Name", and you can add a Description if you wish. To upload the photos one at a time, the process will work exactly as in the "How to Upload a Single Photo to Use With an Article" tutorial. After each photo uploads, you click the "Add Another" button to upload additional photos. But since we have several photos for this gallery, we'll select the "Bulk Upload" button.

Note: To use the "Bulk Upload" option, you must have Java installed on your computer. To see if your machine already has Java installed, go to http://www.java.com/en/.

Once the Bulk Upload tool loads completely, find the folder on your computer where the photos are located. You will see the thumbnails of the photos in the upper pane.

You can select each photo individually by clicking on it once. To select multiple photos, keep holding the Shift key down as you click. To easily select all of the photos, click on the box-shaped "Select All Files" icon in the top right corner of the Bulk Upload pane.

Then simply drag the selected photos from the top pane to the bottom pane and release.

Once you photos are in the bottom pane, you will notice several editorial icons surrounding each photo. Clicking the red "X" icon will remove the photo from the upload list.

Clicking the curved arrow on the left side of the photo will rotate the image clockwise.

Clicking the curved arrow on the right side of the photo will rotate the image counter-clockwise.

Clicking the paintbrush icon will bring up the Edit Photo window.

The Edit Photo window gives you even more tools to edit your image before uploading, including rotating the photo in either direction, cropping, and resizing. The window even offers Filters you can apply to the photo, like Contrast, Grayscale, Sepia tone, Blur, Hue/Saturation adjustment and Blur/Unsharp mask.

Once you have edited your photos and are ready to upload, just click on the green Upload arrow button below the bottom pane.

You will see a status bar, letting you know your photos are uploading.

Once all of the photos are uploaded, you will be taken back to the photo upload window. On the right side of the page, you will notice a checkbox beside the text, "These uploaded photos can be purchased." By checking this box, the photos you are about to upload will automatically have a "Buy Now" link at the bottom of each photo page. This allows visitors to purchase prints of these photos from wallet-sized to posters. If you are a professional photographer, you may not wish to choose this option. Currently, photo purchasing is done through SmugMug.com. Your school will receive $2.00 for each photo sold.

To complete the gallery, just click on the "Save" button.

The photo gallery has now been created. You can change which photo will appear as the gallery cover image, as well as add captions to each individual photo, by clicking on the "Edit Photo" button above each photo page.

Select the photo you want to appear as the gallery cover image, and click the checkbox.

You can also add a caption to the photo on the "Edit Photo" page.

When finished, just click the "Save" button.
