Apex grad Matt Tenuta happy he signed with Kansas City Royals

APEX - When former Apex pitcher Matt Tenuta decided to forgo his commitment to play at N.C. State University, it came as a surprise for two reasons.

First, he was a 25th-round selection by the Kansas City Royals, far lower than he might have been chosen out of college.

Second, his father, Jon Tenuta, associate coach for defense and linebackers at N.C. State, stated the reason he stayed put this offseason – reneging on an agreement to work at the University of Illinois – was to watch his son pitch for the Wolfpack.

“That didn’t play too much into my decision,” the younger Tenuta said. “I’ve wanted to play professional baseball for as long as I can remember, and I’ve been pushing for it my whole life.

On the day I was drafted, that was all I could think about.”
