Apex soccer continues road win streak, tops Athens Drive

RALEIGH - After average performances on the road to start the season, the Apex Cougars have changed their fortunes and become road warriors.

On Wednesday night, Apex (10-4-1, 8-2-1) extended its road winning streak to four with a 3-0 win over host Athens Drive (7-7-3, 3-7-1).

The Cougars started the season just 3-3-1 on the road, but the turnaround is a big reason why they’re still second in the Tri-9 Conference.

“At this point in the season, you want consistency,” Apex coach Kevin Todd said. “As we’re winding down, you want to have some momentum heading into the playoffs.

Right now we have a good chance of making the playoffs, but you never want to just stumble in there.”

As for the home team, finding consistency has been a struggle lately.
