Sep 8, 2012 The Cary Imps came away Friday night with not only a victory over their rival, the Apex Cougars, but with a statement game defensively.
Apex was able to muster a mere 16 yards of total offense in the first half against a Cary defense that hasn’t allowed more than 15 points all season long. The seven points the Cougars put on the board Friday night were the first points the Imps had allowed to them in two years, and the 45-7 Imps win was the fourth consecutive victory for Cary in the rivalry. The Cary defense found the first points of the game as Imps linebacker Matt Rush picked off a Jordan Betts pass and rumbled 33 yards for the score, midway through the 1st quarter. Imps quarterback Jordan Dawson, who finished the game with 60 yards on the ground, leapt over the line late in the first quarter to extend the lead to 14-0 for the Imps.
