Sep 1, 2012 The crowd arrived early, decked out in orange and black respectively, for the Tri-Nine matchup Friday between Middle Creek and Fuquay-Varina.
The Middle Creek Mustangs proved more than prepared to remain the only undefeated team in the conference. David Salmon and the Mustangs used a giant second quarter for the second week in a row to build another 34-point halftime lead, and defeated Fuquay-Varina by the final score of 52-21. It took the Mustangs nearly all of the first quarter to get going, but once they did, they could not be stopped. David Salmon hit Curtis Burton from 14 yards out to give Middle Creek the 7-0 lead with just over a minute remaining in the 1st quarter. The touchdown would be the first of five unanswered scores by the Mustangs. Middle Creek reached the end zone once again via the Salmon and Burton connection, this time from 12 yards out. They would then take a 20-0 advantage on the legs of Salmon as he punched it in from 3 yards out. The touchdown was Salmon’s seventh in just over five quarters of football.
