Holly Springs volleyball holds off Panther Creek

September 1, 2012
Tri-Nine Conference

CARY - Looking across the net was a bit like looking into the mirror for the Panther Creek and Holly Springs volleyball teams as they squared off against each other Tuesday. They were almost equal in terms of size, both had strong senior liberos and both boasted many young players in their lineups.

But the biggest difference between the two teams wasn’t apparent until the points started to be played.

Holly Springs may have some young players, but they Golden Hawks have plenty of varsity experience, and they enjoyed a 3-0 sweep of the Catamounts, winning 25-19, 25-17, 25-14.

Four times in games two and three, the Hawks scores six or more consecutive points to break free of a close contest.

The Hawks (2-1, 2-0) are starting to learn how to put teams away, said coach Jennifer Ivanoff. Holly Springs’ only loss was one to top Wake County program Wakefield in five sets.
