CARY -- Green Hope started the season by getting another monkey off its back. The Falcons defeated visiting Smithfield-Selma 34-6 on a soggy Friday night to end a 25-game home losing streak.
Green Hope ended a losing streak last year on the road against Smithfield-Selma in the opener, and started off on the right foot again this year. But it’s one less streak head coach Kwame Dixon would like to hear about.
“When I got here we ended a streak last year. Then I read an article we have a home-loss streak and a conference [loss] streak.

I’m more concerned about winning the game,” Dixon said.
The Falcons helped ease any concern for Dixon early in the game.
Green Hope scored on its second possession. Junior QB Chris Tutwiler threw a 25-yard strike to Eddie Auslander in the back of the end zone for the touchdown. Freshman Zach Doernburg’s extra point made it 7-0 midway through the first quarter.
