Girls golf preview

Tri-Nine Conference

The Tri-Nine Conference had a little bit of everything in girls’ golf last season, as parity and surprises reigned supreme.

Green Hope won the conference championship.

Middle Creek won the 4A East regional.

A Fuquay-Varina golfer captured conference player of the year.

And Athens Drive, who quietly had finished third in the Tri-Nine, won the state championship for the third time in the last four seasons.

Athens Drive loses two key seniors from last year’s group, but returns Sara Bae, who finished third in the 4A championships and has been one of the state’s top golfers since her freshman year. The senior was not eligible to win Tri-Nine player of the year because she had missed too many league matches.

Bae did win medalist at the Tri-Nine tournament last year, which the Jagauars also captured.
