Home » Baseball NewsA Mustang title stampedeApril 9, 2012 Tri-Nine Conference![]() FOUR OAKS - Middle Creek reeled through the first seven games of its Tri-Nine 4A Conference baseball slate with few problems. Then came last week when the Mustangs took a surprising 7-6 loss at Athens Drive and fell victim to a mercy rule loss (11-1 in five innings) to rival Fuquay-Varina. “We were exhausted that game and our pitching was depleted,” said junior Graham Edwards of the big loss to Fuquay-Varina. “Jimmy (Boyd) got hurt pitching and we were out of pitching. But we just had to shake it off like coach told us, come out here and concentrate on winning this.” Three games later, the Mustangs appear to be back in full stride, completing a run to the championship of the 22nd annual Johnston County Easter Invitational with an 11-0 win over Smithfield-Selma Tuesday night at Bruce Coats Field. Middle Creek (12-4) capitalized on nearly every chance it had on the night and made the defensive plays at the right time against the Spartans, turning a close game into an easy win.
