Green Hope, Panther Creek propose super conference to NCHSAA realignment committee

CHAPEL HILL - Panther Creek and Green Hope presented several options to the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s realignment committee on Thursday morning, but from the start, the two schools acknowledged they had been unable to develop any plan endorsed by all schools affected.

Some of the 23 schools favor changes to the current proposal that the realignment committee has developed. Some schools are against any changes. Many schools are neutral and several schools haven’t communicated with others.

Rodney Nelson, principal of Panther Creek, said administrators at his school and at Green have a new appreciation of the complexities of putting NCHSAA member schools into conferences, which happens every four years because of new schools and changing enrollments.

The realignment committee was scheduled to hear appeals today and enter deliberations on Thursday night. The committee may announce recommendation Friday, but the committee may have to reconvene.
