Evans proved he has the poise of a someone much older. After Green Hope's Ches Edwards hit a 3-pointer with 42 seconds to go put Green Hope's boys on top 55-52, Evans answered almost immediately with a 22-footer. "It was just as clutch as anything could be for a conference tournament game," Apex coach David Neal said. Green Hope held the ball for the last 37 seconds, but Chris Flemmings' 3-pointer clanked off the front rim to send the game to overtime. That's where Apex finally pulled away. The Cougars claimed the Tri-Nine tournament title with a 68-60 overtime victory Friday night. Apex also won the conference championship, given to the regular season winner.
