Sparkman Wins 6A Softball Title with 6-5 Win In Finals

    The Senators, playing in the Class 6A state softball finals at Lagoon Park while the school’s baseball team was battling Spain Park at Riverwalk Stadium in the Class 6A baseball finals, beat Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 6-5 in eight inning to close out the tourney undefeated  at 4-0. The Senators managed only four hits off two Hillcrest pitchers. Ariel Smith slammed a two-run homer for the big hit. Sparkman got the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Jordan Bullock scored from second base when Hillcrest misplayed a grounder off the bat of Haley Cope. Lead-off  hitter Bevia Robinson scored two runs for Sparkman and was named the 6A Tourney MVP. Hillcrest, which totaled 11 hits, got home runs from Desiree Morrow and Dakota Morrow. Dakota finished with two hits and three RBIs, and Desiree had two hits and two RBIs. Karley Sanders and Allison Freeman also had two hits.Samantha Mayhall started and pitched two innings for Sparkman. Bailey Moore hurled four innings allowing seven hits and two runs, and Kailey Stoker got the win shutting out the Patriots the last two innings.  Hannah Payne pitched 4 2/3 innings to get the loss. Sparkman also beat Hillcrest 7-2 in the winner’s bracket finals and had wins over Spain Park (6-5) and Mary Montgomery (7-2).
